Diaspora Community Services (DCS)
This grassroots agency is a not-for-profit organization that empowers families and individuals to achieve self-sufficiency through their direct services in health education, family support, counseling and advocacy. Founded in 1981, DCS has been serving low income and struggling immigrants in the Central Brooklyn for the past 30 years. Many of their clients have a history of substance abuse, mental health diagnosis and are foreign born, primarily from Haiti, Dominican Republic, Latin American Countries, or the Caribbean.
In August 2001, DCS founded the Centre Medico Social de Port-au-Prince (CMSP), a clinic based in Port-au-Prince with the support of DCS funds, the MAC AIDs Fund, the Bristol Meyers Squibb Foundation and donations from other Health and Medical organizations.
