The university focuses on areas of research and higher education under the direction of a group of other universities in other disciplines. They contribute their education towards the development of Haiti at the social, economical, cultural, intellectual and scientific levels. Students are awarded licenses, diplomas or certificates upon graduation. The school also provides Editions Universite Caraibe that offers textbooks for children and teachers, dictionaries and other reference books for sale. Teaching is done in Creole, French and English.

University of Port-au-Prince (UP) was founded in 1983 under the French name of l’Institut de Gestion et de Comptabilité (IGC). This private institution is made of different faculties in specific domains and renders licenses in the fields of administration, judicial and political science, economy, computer science, and more. They have about 5,000 students already enrolled in the University. Another campus located at 19 de la rue Riviere is in construction to accommodate the students.

UEH or the State University of Haiti is a public institution of higher education in Haiti overseeing about 20 institutions that offer superior education in the fields of science and research. UEH is currently developing an online curriculum (formation.ueh.edu.ht) with the collaboration of the Commission Universitaire pour le Développement (CUD) and a virtual library (bibliothèque pluridisciplinaire) for the health and science universities.
UEH’s institutions are located in different cities of Haiti such as Les Cayes, Cap-Haïtien, Jérémie, Hinche, Gonaïves, Jacmel and more. Port-au-Prince is the seat of UEH’s central administration and 11teaching and research schools.
